The Southern Explorer is a shorter Sri Lanka adventure holiday offering an accessible blend of wildlife, surfing, marine experiences and cultural discovery. Designed for travellers who prefer moderate activities rather than a demanding expedition, it travels through Yala, Mirissa, Galle, Bentota and Colombo. Track wildlife on safari, try surfing along the southern coast, search for whales and dolphins, explore Galle Fort and cruise through the Madu River’s mangrove ecosystem. The itinerary concludes with Colombo’s food and city culture. It is particularly suitable between November and April, when conditions along the southern coast are generally more favourable for beach activities and marine excursions.

Itinerary
Arrive in Sri Lanka and transfer to Negombo for a restful first night. Enjoy the coastal surroundings and prepare for your journey through the island’s southern region.
Travel to Yala and check into your accommodation near the national park. Join an afternoon safari in search of elephants, leopards, crocodiles, deer and diverse birdlife.
Continue to Mirissa, stopping at the Hummanaya Blow Hole and other coastal viewpoints when suitable. Try surfing with an instructor or relax beside the ocean at one of the south’s most popular beaches.
Begin early for an optional whale-watching excursion before visiting Galle Fort. Continue to Bentota and explore the Madu River’s mangroves, islands and local cinnamon-growing communities.
Travel to Colombo and discover the city through its architecture, markets and street food. Enjoy a guided tasting experience and a final evening in the capital.
Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport after breakfast. Conclude a compact adventure combining coast, wildlife, heritage and city experiences.
